How can we ensure that women’s voices are effectively represented in agrifood policymaking? This question was at the heart of the stakeholder workshop conducted in New Delhi, as part of the WEAGov framework. Led by LEAD at Krea University along with IFPRI, the workshop brought together researchers, policymakers, and private sector representatives to validate and refine the WEAGov assessment framework for measuring women’s agency and representation in governance.
Building on findings from a Nigerian pilot study in 2023, the Indian pilot explored the relevance and accuracy of key indicators in the local context. Stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, and private sector representatives, engaged in detailed deliberations on data sources, measurement approaches, and implications for policy and programming. The workshop resulted in a validated framework for India, actionable feedback on the methodology, and insights that will inform the forthcoming India WEAGov Country Report and a global implementation manual. These efforts aim to advance inclusive governance and enhance women’s resilience to climate change.
