This assessment examined and documented the impact of Deshpande Foundation’s ‘Farm Ponds’ program.
Background
Farmers in rain-fed areas face several challenges in raising their crops such as climate variability, crop failure and non-remunerative prices. To address these challenges, Deshpande Foundation has initiated a ‘Farm Pond’ program under which different sizes of farm ponds are constructed based on emerging demands and needs of farmers. This study assessed the impact of the program on beneficiaries, examined behavioral changes in participating households and communities, and identified strategies for scaling it up.
