Feasibility Study for Sustained Management of Public Sanitation Facilities

This study was a feasibility assessment to support the implementation of City Sanitation Plans across and the development of State Sanitation Strategies to improve public sanitation across the country.

Background
This study, supported by GIZ, was conducted in the broader context of supporting the implementation of City Sanitation Plans across India and in the development of State Sanitation Strategies aimed at improving the status of public sanitation delivery across Indian states. The main study objective was to carry out a feasibility study for sustained management of Public Sanitation Facilities in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The research includes: review of successful technical and management models of public sanitation facilities across India, assessment of demand-supply gaps and constraints in the selected city through qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, development of investment and management models for improved delivery of public sanitation, capacity improvement efforts for various stakeholders in planning, execution and sustained management of public sanitation facilities.
