IAFFE 2023: Technology-driven Approaches to Women’s Economic Empowerment – Successes and Challenges

LEAD at Krea University and IWWAGE participated in the International Association of Feminist Economics’s 31st Annual Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. Sona Mitra from IWWAGE anchored a session on the different forms in which digital technology is enabling women’s economic empowerment in India. The session also featured a presentation by Sharon Buteau, Executive Director, LEAD at Krea University on leveraging technology for last-mile access to social protection.

International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) is a non-profit organization that seeks to advance feminist inquiry into economic issues and to educate economists and others on feminist points of view on economic issues. The conference brought together academics, practitioners, advocacy groups and policymakers worldwide to present their visions of what a world defined by the principles of feminist economics would look like. The conference facilitated deliberations on alternative theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence regarding strategies adopted by feminists. It also provided a space for debates on policy proposals on what steps are and could be taken to realise these visions.
