Background:

This study aims to understand the opportunities and challenges faced by startups in Tamil Nadu in their journey through the stages of ideation, validation, early traction and scaling. This documentation and consequent recommendations will aid policy making with a readily available rich resource for policymakers who want to promote Tamil Nadu-based startups and would like to see a clearer picture of the issues and challenges faced by startups.

Methodology

Via secondary research and primary research including qualitative and quantitative elements, a comprehensive startup ecosystem and journey mapping would be carried out, to provide valuable insight into Tamil Nadu’s startup ecosystem. This would enable the measurement of its performance and also the benchmarking of itself relative to the performance of other high-performing states. Secondary data sources will include government sources such as Startup India Hub portal and MSME Annual Report and private research papers from Inc42 and angel investing networks which will provide a robust understanding of the landscape. Additionally, startup founders, incubator heads, business associations such as CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM will be reached out to for primary data collection by conducting semi structured interviews.
