About STREE:

The Government of India’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) has been working towards alleviating poverty in rural India by developing strong local institutions to enhance livelihoods opportunities in the farm and non-farm sectors. The National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP) is one such effort of the mission that aspires to support women-led enterprise development by enabling access to finance, building markets and networks, and generating employment opportunities. NRETP is currently being implemented across 13 states to support 80,000 rural enterprises by June 2023. 

STREE was conceived in December 2019 to support NRLM’s vision of creating a robust enabling entrepreneurial ecosystem for women in rural India under NRETP. It is a technical assistance initiative spearheaded by LEAD at Krea University, which aims to drive women-led enterprise development with research at the core of its work. The STREE initiative is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Support the non-farm livelihoods team at the National Mission Management Unit in the execution of programs;
  • Coordinate with State Rural Livelihoods Mission (SRLMs) for the promotion of non-farm enterprises of the SHG members; the support is for individual and group enterprises, clusters and value chain projects;
  • Monitor the implementation of the various projects and support states in course correction wherever necessary;
  • Draft guidance notes, guidelines and other documents at the National level for supporting programme implementation;
  • Conduct regular visits to the states for handholding and monitoring support.

Qualification: 

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent PGDP) in Social Work, Rural Development, Public Policy or other affiliated fields from an accredited university/ institution.

Experience: 

Essential:

  • 1 to 2 years of work experience of working in implementing non-farm livelihood interventions;
  • Strong coordination, multitasking and management skill in handling stakeholders at various levels and verticals; 
  • Should have adequate skills in using MS Office suite, particularly MS Excel, MS Powerpoint and Word.

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience working on programs in non-farm livelihoods promotion for rural poor and/or experience in enterprise promotion, business advisory services, and forward and backward linkages;
  • Track record of working in rural areas and promoting non-farm livelihoods of rural communities;
  • Experience working with groups like SHGs, Producer companies, Joint Liability groups, etc. 

Language:

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Hindi is required. Working knowledge of any of the NRETP state language/s is desirable but not essential.
