About IWWAGE:

Institute for What Works to Advance Gender Equality (IWWAGE) is an initiative of LEAD, an action-oriented research centre of IFMR Society (a not-for-profit society registered under the Societies Act). LEAD has strategic oversight and brand support from Krea University (sponsored by IFMR Society) to enable synergies between academia and the research centre. IWWAGE aims to build and deepen evidence around the low participation of women in the economy – caused by low asset base, poor access to public services, restrictive gender norms, and the burden of unpaid work – to find solutions to inform gender transformative changes and policy reforms.

About the Position:

The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), given its focus on building women’s groups and developing cluster-based livelihood options. Organized collectives of women build women’s agency and their empowerment. NRLM’s objective for women federations is to serve as institutional bases for social and economic multi-sectoral outcomes for poor women.  This offers the opportunity to assess and scale institutional mechanisms and forms for gender equality and women’s empowerment at the grassroots.  Accordingly, this program aims to strengthen NRLMs and select SRLMs’ focus on gender strategically and ensure tested approaches to gender integration and transformation with federations are institutionalized and scaled up through strategic state-level partnerships. 

IWWAGE is currently a learning and technical partner to DAY-NRLM, which aims to enable the following: 

i. Operationalization of standardized, evidence-backed capacity building for staff and cadres on gender equality, concepts, actions and interventions; 

ii. Developing a non-negotiable, universal approach to establish functional community-level institutions from (village-level to block-level) for strengthening feminist leadership and engendering development planning; 

iii. Forging partnerships between NMMU and SMMUs National Mission Management Units (NMMU) and State Mission Management Units (SMMUs) for developing learning sites to demonstrate the impact of community-level institutions in delivering women’s empowerment; and iv.  Mainstreaming evidence-based MLE to inform policies for gender integration within the program. 

In this context, IWWAGE is seeking applications for the position of Communication/Documentation Officer for providing program support to effectively manage gender programs by contributing to the program design, formulation, monitoring and implementation.

Key Responsibilities:
The Communication and Documentation Officer will work closely with the NMMU gender team and IWWAGE to document best practices and case studies within the program and support communication functions for outreach. The officer will prepare and edit press releases, programme-related progress reports, and documents and perform any other duties assigned by the NMMU.

 S/he will be responsible for the following tasks:   

  • Support the NMMU gender team in documenting case studies, Stories of Change, and processes for publication and outreach.
  • Capture, organising, analysing and disseminating valuable information and knowledge.
  • Developing, curating, reviewing and disseminating creative content. 
  • Support rapporteur for internal learning, events, workshops and training related to the program.
  • Prepare press briefs, program briefs, and forewords for senior officers.
  • Support the NMMU in process documentation/qualitative research. Coordinate with IWWAGE in a timely manner for mutual learning and support.
  • Support the NMMU and IWWAGE in conducting background research, reviewing women’s collectives, and preparing joint reports with other organizations.
  • Partake fieldwork to engage with SRLMs and other partners for documentation as per the need.
  • Provide technical support to the project team in producing various evaluation and knowledge products of the project.
  • Take the lead in preparing presentations for a wide range of stakeholders to reflect upon the learnings and evidence generated.
  • Assist Line Managers and NMMU to prepare quarterly progress reports, annual progress reports and other reporting requirements.
  • Amplify programme visibility through social media presence 
  • Prepare communication strategy and hand hold States for building active communication and social media content.
  • Managing social media presence and visibility for the program.
  • Ensure effective communications, visibility and knowledge management.
  • Produce reports and stories of the seminars/workshops organised by the project.
  • Play a key role in identifying compelling data from MIS, LokOS, and other available data sources of DAY-NRLM and effectively integrating it into communication materials.
  • Draft Inter-Ministerial reports and ensure timely completion of electronic reporting of activities, information, events and any other as may be assigned. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • The candidate should have a Master’s degree in Mass Communications/Journalism or other relevant fields, such as an advanced university degree in Gender and Development, Public Policy, Economics, Social Science, or related areas.
  • At least ten years of relevant working experience and in-depth knowledge of women’s rights issues.
  • Experience in using software and digital applications such as Mailchimp, WordPress, Adobe Suite and Canva will be an asset.
  • Some working experience in the media or with audiovisuals will be an asset.
  • The candidate should have extensive experience in communication and diffusion strategies and techniques, reporting, documentation, publication, and audiovisual material preparation in relation to conservation and development fields.
  • Candidate should possess excellent writing, editing, and speaking skills in both English and Hindi.
  •  Candidates should be well-versed in the latest electronic publishing and graphics methods.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong flair for writing for various audiences.
  • Social media management skills.
