About the Role:

The Business Development & Training Manager will play a key role in identifying fundraising opportunities for the organisation and managing end-to-end proposal development and review. The candidate will work in close coordination with research verticals at LEAD, from identifying funding opportunities that align with our research agenda and mission, to the final submission of proposals. The chosen candidate will provide all support in terms of document preparation, liaising with different departments for information gathering, coordinating timelines and so on. They will also be required to assist in creating written proposals and other materials that are required as per donor requirements. The candidate must be able to write in a detailed, factual and convincing manner. The candidate must anchor the process of tracking and documenting the proposal submissions and updating the internal systems on a frequent basis as per established protocols. 

The candidate will also anchor LEAD’s internal learning management system called Journeybook. This involves conceptualizing and creating targeted courses with subject matter experts (SMEs), onboarding and assigning courses to LEAD employees on an ongoing basis, monitoring the uptake of courses by employees and overall management and administration of the platform in coordination with the AD.

This position is based out of our Chennai office and reports to the Associate Director. Travel may be required to conduct research and to meet with involved parties. This is a networking role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to adhere to demanding deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify funding opportunities on an ongoing basis
  • Develop databases of potential funding organizations across different types such as corporate, bilateral, multilateral, academic, government and so on.
  • Identifying opportunities for core funding and preparing relevant materials to ‘sell’ the organization and its activities  
  • Ensure that the proposal development process is anchored centrally from end to end
  • Ensure that every section of the proposal is developed meticulously, with no gaps
  • Ensure uncompromised quality of proposals/concept notes/expressions of interest submitted by LEAD
  • Understand LEAD’s strengths & areas of improvement in terms of expertise and experience to filter funding opportunities pursued 
  • Develop and maintain a ready folder of project summaries, profile summaries, detailed projects and CVs, and a list of key experts
  • Researching, writing and organizing ideas
  • Conducting interviews, reviewing products or services, creating strategies, working with graphic designers and presenting proposals
  • Assist the relevant vertical heads in developing a proposal structure
  • Identify and re-work existing pre-written content where relevant
  • Deliver completed written proposal responses to the project head against agreed RFP deadlines, escalating issues as required
  • Re-write / edit proposal responses from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from technical, finance, legal and operational teams
  • Prepare other materials such as PowerPoint presentations, concept notes, brochures and so on as required per the particular stakeholder
  • Proactively develop and manage a network of subject matter experts and partners
  • Conceptualize and develop a list of training courses relevant to the requirements of the team
  • Work closely with the SMEs to create content, provide voiceovers and finalize modules for uploading on the platform
  • Work with HR to constantly update the users on the platform and assign courses based on skill mapping
  • Work with managers to monitor the performance of employees 
  • Participate in organizational development activities and work with the learning & communications team to organize events and team-building activities
  • Communicate and influence at a senior level
  • Develop quarterly targets and work-plan and show deliverables against such targets

Required Experience/Skills:  

  • 6+ years of demonstrated communications and research experience
  • Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Communications or related field required
  • Excellent networking skills and the ability to write persuasively and articulately are essential
  • Excellent communicator – able to express complex technical issues in plain language, without losing the important points
  • Detail-oriented candidates with excellent interpersonal, computer and organizational skills preferred
  • Previous experience in proposal writing, which may be gained through internships, as part of college course projects and through volunteer opportunities with awareness groups, community programs and other non-profit organizations preferred
  • Previous experience in winning huge grants from reputed national/international organizations and raising funds from different types of organizations is preferred
  • Previous experience in coordinating training programs or managing LMS platforms is preferred
  • Strong time management/prioritisation skills
  • Energetic and collaborative team player
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skill and ability to efficiently track timelines 
  • Ability to persuade teams to work collaboratively and adhere to guidelines.
