Sivaramkrishnan Balasubramanian

Senior Research Associate

Sivaramakrishnan is a Senior Research Associate with the Environment & Climate Change vertical at IFMR LEAD. His research interests and expertise include the reciprocity of development, sustainability, climate change and environmental legislations. He is currently working on policy and impact evaluations with the Ministry of Housing & Poverty Alleviation (HUPA), and Central and State level pollution control boards (CPCB & TNPCB). Sivaramakrishnan is currently also involved with the WCAI evaluation study that aims in assessing the Water Cess Act, 2003 in promoting water use efficiency and pollution mitigation in Tamil Nadu, State level policy implementation profiling of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) composting under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), 2007. Prior to IFMR LEAD, he worked as a Research Associate with the Abdul Lateef Jameel Poverty Action Lab South Asia on an Emission Trading Scheme, Asia’s first initiative that designed, implemented and evaluated Pilot ETS for particulate matter in 1,000 industrial units in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Sivaramakrishnan holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, UK, during which he collaborated with the Caledonian Environment Centre (CEC) & Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for executing research projects. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology from Anna University, India.
