About the Behavioral Lab:

The Behavioral Economics Lab is led by Dr. Heather Schofield, Dr.Frank Schilbach and Dr. Gautam Rao. The lab conducts projects on various topics such as Education, Household bargaining, Depression and Sleep deprivation.

About the Study:

Dr. Heather Schofield and Dr. Atheendar Venkataramani are running a pilot study on how taxing the mental capacity of individuals from marginal sections of the society affects their perception of experiences and the utility that they derive from these experiences. They are looking for a Research Associate to spearhead the implementation of this project. The pilot study will be based out of the Behavioral Economics Lab in Chennai. The Research Associate will be expected to work with a team of surveyors and ensure smooth implementation of the study. Broadly, the role will involve survey design, survey translation, data collection, data flow management, data cleaning, managing finances, coordinating with other projects at the lab and updating the PIs on various aspects of the study.

Job Responsibilities:

•      Oversee the day-to-day implementation of lab-based and field-based research (scoping, surveying, project implementation) – including the management of field personnel, procurement, budgets, and reporting for the project
•      Assist in the design and field-testing of survey instruments and develop and implement appropriate structures and systems for a randomized intervention, including the procurement of supplies;
•      Develop field and quality control protocols; provide oversight t recruitment, training, and leading of field staff who speak the local language (Tamil) ; and coordinate with local partners
•      Must work in close coordination with PIs of the study as well as the project manager to ensure effective implementation of the study.
•      Ability to oversee the entire data flow management and help in cleaning and analysing data

Specific Qualification/Skill Sets /Experience required for the Position:

•      Master’s Degree in Economics, Development or related field is required
•      Fluency in English and Tamil is required
•      Previous experience in development research or work in developing countries is strongly preferred
•      Strong hold on statistical analysis packages such as Stata is required
•      Flexibility and ability to deal with uncertainty. Adaptability to project needs and schedules.
•      Experience and maturity in relationship management and ability to coordinate with other projects at the Lab
•      Excellent written and oral communication and the ability to visualise data using appropriate data presentation tools
•      Ability to work independently, to be well organized and detail oriented
