Columbia University was founded in 1754 as King’s College by royal charter of King George II of England. The services delivered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH draw on a wealth of regional and technical expertise and tried and tested management know-how. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.GIZ operates in many fields: economic development and employment promotion; governance and democracy; security, reconstruction, peace building and civil conflict transformation; food security, health and basic education; and environmental protection, resource conservation and climate change mitigation. We also support our partners with management and logistical services, and act as an intermediary, balancing diverse interests in sensitive contexts. In crises, we carry out refugee and emergency aid programmes. As part of our services, we also second development advisors to partner countries.
Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF
Emirates Wildlife Society is a non-profit environmental organization in the United Arab Emirates, established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan: (Ruler’s Representative in the western region and chairman of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi)
EWS-WWF was born out of a need to protect biodiversity in key sites across the emirates including species and ecosystems of concern in the region; raise awareness on the high UAE Ecological Footprint and contribute to policy and institutional framework to address environmental issues.
Global Development Network (GDN)
Global Development Network (GDN) is a public International Organization that builds research capacity in development globally. Founded in 1999, GDN is headquartered in New Delhi, with offices in Cairo and Washington DC.GDN’s core business is building research capacity. It does this through:
- Supporting the research capacity of social scientists in developing countries, and connecting them as a cadre of global leaders in development research.
- Fostering new ways of producing, structuring and mobilizing development knowledge in key research areas.
- Interconnecting researchers, knowledge, expertise and resources in support of development research capacity in Global South.
GDN works in collaboration with 11 Regional Network Partners, international donor organizations and governments, research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks and more than 12,500 individual researchers worldwide.
International Growth Centre (IGC)
The International Growth Centre (IGC) aims to promote sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research. We seek to help societies in less econmically developed countries find their own solutions to key growth challenges. Through the provision of the very best academic research, the IGC encourages good policy, which in turn means stronger and sustainable growth. This focu stems from the realisation that without a functioning state which implements policies to enable individuals and firms to become more productive, a large fraction of humanity will be consigned to poverty. Based at LSE and in partnership with Oxford University, the IGC is initiated and funded by DFID. The IGC has 14 active country programmes in 13 countries (Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Ghana, India (Bihar state and Central), Liberia, Mozambique, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia) as well as 10 research programmes spanning topics such as trade, agriculture, macroeconomics and human capital.
Social Initiative Group (SIG)
ICICI Group seeks to improve human development outcomes at the national level by exploring new strategies for change. We have formed key partnerships with the government and a range of civil society players in a bid to effect change.Our initiatives are in fields as diverse as health, education, infrastructure, bio technology and agriculture. The focus is on identifying critical gaps and bridging them with specialised and focused efforts in each case.The foundations of ICICI Bank’s most recent approach towards human and social development were laid with the setting up of the Social Initiatives Group (SIG), a non-profit resource group within the Bank in 2000. The group selected early child health, elementary education and access to financial services as the key areas of focus. SIG seeks to catalyse change by supporting innovation and research, influencing policy and reforming mainstream practices. The SIG facilitates the creation of strategic partnerships for knowledge generation, innovation, research, capacity building and advocacy in each focus area.
